Iraqis 'will queue up to condemn Saddam'

Iraqis will be queuing up to give evidence against Saddam at his trial, the country's foreign minister says.

Hoshiyar Zebari said that Saddam was the key to many unanswered questions and responsible for millions of deaths, several wars and the use of chemical weapons on Iraqis on numerous occasions.

US officials say one option is to put Saddam him before a special tribunal established just days ago by the country's interim government.

A member of Iraq's Governing Council said Saddam would face public trial.

Mr Zebari told BBC Radio 4's The World This Weekend: "People will have to queue to give evidence over what he has done. He is the source of all the crimes against humanity, of genocide, of war crimes.

"He has everything. Weapons of mass destruction - he's the person who knows what he has done with them."

He said Saddam's capture would demoralise resistance fighters and free the Iraqi people from fear.

"He has been the source of many of these attacks on the coalition forces. This will affect dramatically the morale and the level of these attacks and will demoralise his supporters.

"Saddam was a mass murderer of Iraqi people and still he strikes fear among many Iraqi's up to now, despite losing power and being ousted and defeated.

"His removal from the scene will be very good news to all the people of Iraq."
