Police were today hunting a machete-wielding thug who slashed a man in south Belfast.

Police were today hunting a machete-wielding thug who slashed a man in south Belfast.

His victim was taken to hospital with serious facial injuries following the attack just after 2am.

The assault happened in the Glenmackin Street area of the city, police said.

Later, they were told that a man brandishing a machete was seen in the nearby Sandy Row area.

Investigating officers have urged anyone with information on him to alert police.
