Random breath testing for motorists is to be introduced as of midnight tomorrow.

Garda Commissioner Noel Conroy today said police checkpoints will be set up outside pubs as well as on the country’s roads.

The new measure was unveiled today by Transport Minister Martin Cullen following a wave of road deaths over the past two weeks.

“Everybody on the roads in this country, whether you are drinking or not, could be subject to a random breath test,” said Mr Cullen.
