Rocks set for Ascot

Brian Meehan has revealed that Breeders’ Cup Turf winner Red Rocks is likely to take in the Prince Of Wales’s Stakes at Royal Ascot before heading to the Coral Eclipse.

Meehan ran David Junior in both races last season and while he could only finish fourth to Ouija Board at Ascot, he turned the tables in no uncertain terms at Sandown.

But after Red Rocks proved his wellbeing in the Gordon Richards Stakes, form which received a timely boost with the victory of Notnowcato at the weekend, Meehan is hoping to land two Group One races in the space of three weeks.

“Red Rocks beat Notnowcato with something in hand, so it was very pleasing to see the outcome of events at the Curragh,” said Meehan.

“We’d been thinking of heading straight to the Eclipse, but now he’s very likely to appear at Royal Ascot before then. He’s in great shape and I couldn’t be more pleased with him,” Meehan told the Racing Post.

Meehan also had news of 2000 Guineas also-ran Diamond Tycoon, who is set for a spell on the sidelines.

“He’s a big, rangy colt and I want to give him plenty of time,” said Meehan.

“Accordingly, he will not return to training until September. We’ll look at end- of-season targets, possibly including the Breeders’ Cup, but his major objective will be the Dubai Duty Free at Nad Al Sheba next spring.”
