A Government taskforce is to recommend taxes on foods that cause obesity.
It is calling on the Department of Finance to investigate the fiscal policies of food consumption.
The taskforce, set up a year ago to tackle the growing problem of obesity, is due to report to the Minister for Health Mary Harney shortly.
It's expected the taskforce will ask the Government to look into how the tax system could encourage healthy eating.
This could see the introduction of incentives, one of which could be the so-called "fat taxes" on high fat and sugary foods.
However, former health Minister Michéal Martin has previously said that taxes on junk food were not on the agenda.
