Palace target Celtic's Lennon

Crystal Palace manager Peter Taylor has confirmed he wants to bring Celtic skipper Neil Lennon to Selhurst Park.

Crystal Palace manager Peter Taylor has confirmed he wants to bring Celtic skipper Neil Lennon to Selhurst Park.

The Irishman, who will be 35 on Sunday, is out of contract this summer and he has yet to re-sign for the Parkhead club.

Lennon briefly worked with Taylor at Leicester and the new Palace boss, who took over from Iain Dowie at the south London club, revealed he is interested in renewing their partnership.

Celtic boss Gordon Strachan believes Lennon will stay at Parkhead, saying: “Neil will be here on Friday.”

But Taylor told the Daily Record: “I always regretted selling Lenny to Celtic six years ago.

“I have such a lot of respect for him as a player and I’m very interested in him for Palace.

“It’s early days but I understand the kind of frustration he’s suffering at the moment.

“I met with my staff for the first time on Monday morning.

“We discussed what was needed at the club to get us back into the Premiership.

“Neil’s a good type and a good player and he’d be good for the club.”
