Tax money will not be used following insurance company's collapse

The Tanaiste, Mary Harney says that taxpayers money will not be used to bail out companies here without insurance following the collapse of the UK based Independent Insurance last week.

The Tanaiste, Mary Harney says that taxpayers money will not be used to bail out companies here without insurance following the collapse of the UK based Independent Insurance last week.

The opposition parties have called on the Government to intervene to help companies that have been left in the lurch by the collapse.

Ms Harney said that her Department is investigating the possibility of channelling existing funds to the companies that were worst hit, which is mainly in the building sector.
