Rampant Cork brush Clare aside

Just 5,258 spectators turned up to watch 13-man Clare dumped out of the Munster SFC race and, in truth, they need not have bothered as Cork were in no mood to waiver in Ennis.

Racing into a 0-10 to 0-03 by the break, Billy Morgan's Rebels swept through to next month's Munster decider with Limerick or All-Ireland champions Kerry to join them next week.

Clare had midfielder David Russell and wing-back Ronan Slattery sent-off in the separate second half incidents.

Cork too lost wing back Martin Cronin to a dismissal but the result was never in doubt.

James Masters was central to their effort, inspiring the visitors to hit six unanswered points late in the first half for their seven-point interval buffer.

A disappointing third quarter saw just a point apiece hit at either end of Cusack Park, but following the dismissals, Morgan's charges again took advantage to point another six on the trot.

Masters and Micheal O Croinin were outstanding up front and Anthony Lynch was on fire at centre-back.

The results has put Clare, who had Rory Donnelly as their top scorer with three overs, in the qualifiers.

With a potential decider against great rivals Kerry in the offing, Cork boss Morgan said: "I suppose everyone is expecting Kerry to come through, but whoever it is, we are just happy to be in the final."

Scorers:

Cork: M O Croinin 0-06 (0-03f), J Masters 0-05 (0-011f, 1 '45'), C McCarthy 0-02, F Gould, J Hayes, N Murphy, K O'Sullivan, A Cronin 0-01 each

Clare: R Donnelly 0-03 (0-01f), O O'Dwyer 0-02 (0-01f), S Hickey 0-01.
