Clarke: Chelsea eye Carling Cup

Chelsea assistant manager Steve Clarke insists the club have been focused on lifting the Carling Cup since they beat West Ham in their first game in this season’s competition.

Chelsea assistant manager Steve Clarke insists the club have been focused on lifting the Carling Cup since they beat West Ham in their first game in this season’s competition.

The Barclays Premiership leaders have also accounted for Newcastle to reach the last eight and tonight face a trip to west London rivals Fulham.

Clarke revealed Chelsea will field a strong side in a bid to lift their first silverware since winning the Charity Shield in 2000.

Clarke said: “It has been the same from the very first game we have played. We wanted to win that and we want to win tonight.

“We have shown that we will rotate the squad a little bit but we will not make too many changes.

"Whatever team we put out on to the pitch will be a very good one.

“It will be nice come February to be involved in a final. It will give everybody a little bit of a lift. When you are playing in front of a full house you do not feel like you are in a competition classed as the least attractive to win.”
