A Ghanaian politician has allegedly stolen a taxi at gunpoint.

Central Regional Minister Isaac E Edumaze was on his way to Accra with his bodyguard and driver when the alleged incident took place.

The taxi is reported to have driven away followed by the Minister's cross-country car after a row between the occupants of both vehicles.

When shots were allegedly fired at them, the taxi driver and his passengers ran away, leaving the car behind.

Reports say Mr Edumaze then ordered his driver to take the deserted car and drive it to his residence at Cape Coast.

The Minister said he had been angered by insulting gestures from the taxi driver.

The owner of the stolen car has filed a police complaint.
