The al-Qaeda network of Islamic militant Osama bin Laden has said it will hit back at the US and Britain in retaliation for the air strikes on Afghanistan.

In a recorded statement televised on the al-Jazeera television station, a spokesman warned Muslims in Britain and America not to travel by plane or live in skyscrapers.

He also told non-Muslims to leave the Arabian peninsula and issued specific threats against President Bush, the previous two US presidents, British Prime Minister Tony Blair and Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon.

The White House has dismissed the statement as "just more propaganda".
