Investment into this country has seen a significant swing into regions outside Dublin, according to the Industrial Development Agency. 50 per cent of all new jobs negotiated in co-operation with local authorities during last year were secured for the regions, the IDA said in its end-of-year statement.

These included a $2bn further investment by Intel in Leixlip, a new £50m plant by American firm Teradyne in Cavan and a $1bn Wyeth Medica bio-technology campus at Grange Castle in Dublin. 40 per cent of these carried salaries of £25,000 per annum or over, the statement added.
