The Taoiseach, Bertie Ahern, is coming under further pressure at the Mahon Tribunal today over delays in providing his financial records to the inquiry.

The Taoiseach, Bertie Ahern, is coming under further pressure at the Mahon Tribunal today over delays in providing his financial records to the inquiry.

Yesterday, tribunal lawyers revealed that they were close to issuing a summons compelling Mr Ahern to give evidence in public due to delays in his provision of information.

Mr Ahern also admitted that he only recently told the tribunal about foreign exchange transactions linked to large sums of money he received in the 1990s.

This morning, the Taoiseach was pushed to explain why he did not supply all the details at an earlier stage.

On occasions, Mr Ahern's barrister interrupted the tribunal lawyer and accused him of asking questions outside his brief.

The Taoiseach was also pressed this morning on why IR£50,000 was transferred from one of his accounts to that of his former partner, Celia Larkin.
