Report on Ennis misdiagnosis cases to be published

Services at the Mid Western Regional Hospital in Ennis will come under scrutiny today as the results of a report are published this lunchtime.

An inquiry was launched by the Health Information and Quality Authority following the controversy over the misdiagnosis and deaths of Ann Moriarty and Edel Kelly last year.

Ann Moriarty was a 53-year-old mother of one from Ennis in Co. Clare.

She died from breast cancer in April last year after she had been misdiagnosed twice at the Mid Western Regional Hospital in the town in 2007.

Twenty-six-year-old Edel Kelly from Kilrush was misdiagnosed at the hospital in 2006.

She died in June last year.
