A murder investigation was launched today after a man was stabbed to death in Co Kerry.

A murder investigation was launched today after a man was stabbed to death in Co Kerry.

Gardaí from Killarney Garda station were called to a house on the Pinewood Estate at 2am.

The 30-year-old victim, who had a number of stab wounds, was taken to Tralee General Hospital where he later died.

"The scene at Pinewood Estate has been preserved for technical examination," said a garda spokesman.

Meanwhile, 40-year-old man arrested after a stabbing in Sligo in the early hours of yesterday morning was released without charge.

His 29-year-old victim, who was wounded twice, remained in a stable condition in hospital.

A file was being prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions.
