A Philadelphia bank has been robbed on the day it opened for business.

The Citizens Bank in the north-east of the city was robbed by a man who passed a note to a cashier.

Reports say no weapon was displayed and no getaway car was seen.

The bank had marked its first day of business by paying the fares of the hundreds of thousands of commuters in the city.

The FBI said it believed the robber was the same man who had struck at six other banks in the area, reports the Philadelphia Inquirer.

Investigators believe he hires taxis to drive him to the robberies.
