Premiership: Rams confirm Gregory talks

Derby today confirmed talks have taken place with John Gregory over the managerial vacancy at Pride Park.

Derby today confirmed talks have taken place with John Gregory over the managerial vacancy at Pride Park.

Gregory left Aston Villa after four years in charge last Thursday, blaming a breakdown in his relationship with chairman Doug Ellis for his decision to quit the Birmingham club.

The Rams, seeking a successor for Colin Todd after he was sacked two weeks ago, yesterday expressed their interest in the 47-year-old, with an official approach to his agent, Paul Stretford.

Chief executive Keith Loring today revealed Derby had been in talks with Gregory, who played for the Rams in the mid-1980s, and that discussions would continue tomorrow.

Derby play their second game under caretaker-boss Billy McEwan against Charlton at The Valley tonight.
