The Green Party convention in Cork has voted to pursue an independent election strategy, ruling out a pre-election pact with any party.
However, the party is not ruling out entering a coalition government after the election.
Should the Greens hold the balance of power, the party will call a special convention to consult members.
Party leader Trevor Sargent said the Greens are unlikely to enter government with Fianna Fail, as they believe the interim report due from the Flood Tribunal may contain embarrassing revelations.
