Israel has assassinated another Palestinian in a helicopter missile attack in the West Bank town of Tulkarem.

Five US-supplied Apache helicopters hovered over the town before firing missiles at a taxi, according to Tulkarem Governor Izzedine al-Sharif.

At least one person died in the attack, al-Sharif said, but Israeli radio has reported two deaths.

Al-Sharif also said that Israeli soldiers chased wounded passengers who fled the scene of the attack and captured one of them.

Israel has assassinated almost 60 Palestinian militants and civilians in targeted attacks over the past year.

The programme of state-sponsored murder has attracted widespread criticism from politicians, governments and human rights groups throughout the world.
