The Taoiseach, Bertie Ahern, will travel to Italy and Austria today to seek support for an EU declaration that the Nice Treaty will not affect Ireland’s military neutrality.

Mr Ahern will meet the leaders of the two countries in Rome and Vienna.

The Taoiseach hopes that the declaration he is seeking will help him secure a ‘yes’ vote when a new referendum on the Nice Treaty is held later this year.
