Eircom admits second O'Brien approach

Eircom has confirmed that a fresh approach has been received from a consortium led by former Esat owner Denis O'Brien for the purchase of its fixed line and Internet businesses.

Eircom has confirmed that a fresh approach has been received from a consortium led by former Esat owner Denis O'Brien for the purchase of its fixed line and Internet businesses.

Eircom said the discussions with the E-Island consortium are at an early stage and there can be no assurances that they will result in what it calls "an acceptable offer".

The statement follows reports this morning that Mr O'Brien has increased his bid from £1.7bn to about £1.9bn.
