Motorists are being urged to remain cautious on roads across the country following more freezing temperatures overnight.

The AA says driving conditions are dangerous in many places due to black ice and patches of mist and fog in some areas.

The midlands and the north of the country are the worst affected, along with areas of high ground like the Wicklow hills.

Motorists are being advised not to trust the road surface underneath their wheels, even if it appears to be safe, as there could be ice in shady spots just around the next corner.
