Selinka handed Longchamp assignment

Selinka’s performance in Saturday’s Prix du Prince d’Orange at Longchamp should go a long way towards determining the filly’s future.

It will be a first effort over a trip further than a mile and connections are keen to see how she gets on.

Already a dual Listed race winner for trainer Richard Hannon and owner Robert Barnett, Selinka finished fourth in her last two races – the Oak Tree Stakes and the Celebration Mile.

“It is very important for her to get a Group win but the aim really is to see if she stays a mile and a quarter,” said Will Edmeades, Barnett’s racing manager.

“Her mother didn’t get six furlongs, but we should learn a lot as she is a filly who could stay in training next year. She may well do as she is quite a leggy, improving type.

“We have left her in the Sun Chariot Stakes and if she does not have too hard a race on Saturday, she could go to Newmarket.

“She has often been staying on at the end of her races and when she was beaten by Barshiba at Royal Ascot, she made up a huge amount of ground.”
