Irish aid agency GOAL has urged the Government to withdraw the Irish ambassador from Uganda in protest at the execution of two soldiers following a military tribunal yesterday.
The duo were executed by firing squad after the tribunal found them guilty of killing an Irish priest and his two companions last Thursday.
GOAL’s John O’Shea said: "They’re listed as the third most corrupt nation on this planet and yet the Irish Government intends to give them €35m of our taxpayers money this year. I believe that has to stop immediately, but more importantly, we have to send out a message that we won’t tolerate this sort of repression and call back our ambassador."
