A pensioner was treated for shock tonight after he was tied up and struck over the head with an iron bar during a robbery at his home.

Police are hunting three masked men who forced their way into the 65-year-old man’s home in Newtownabbey, Co Antrim.

The men ransacked the victim’s home in Carntall Road and made off with cash shortly after 4pm.

The alarm was later raised by the injured man who managed to make his way to a neighbour’s house while his hands and feet were still tied.

He was then taken to hospital where he was treated for shock.

A police spokeswoman said two of the robbers were wearing combat-style jackets and trousers, while the third man was wearing a yellow fluorescent jacket.
