French arrests over 'plans to attack US embassy'
Police in France have arrested seven people over alleged plans to attack the US embassy in Paris.
The seven are suspected of belonging to extremist Islamic groups have been detained in Paris.
An Algerian man being held in the United Arab Emirates reportedly confessed to planning an attack on US targets.
The man is believed to have provided the names and addresses of the suspects.
The arrests started in Bezon, Vigneux-sur-Seine and Chilly-Mazarin in the Paris region.
Le Parisien newspaper says Judge Jean Louis Bruguiere travelled to the United Arab Emirates to question Djamal Beghal.
He is reported to have said a suicide attack was being planned on American interests in France.
The paper says Beghal has been living in Germany and London during the last few years and has recently been to one of bin Laden's training camps in Afghanistan.
He was arrested in Dubai allegedly with a false passport and has given information leading to arrests of suspects in Brussels and Rotterdam last week.
