Fianna Fáil TD Billy Kelleher has called on publicans to freeze the price of drink for a year in response to the Government's decision not to increase excise duty on alcohol in this week's Budget.

Fianna Fáil TD Billy Kelleher has called on publicans to freeze the price of drink for a year in response to the Government's decision not to increase excise duty on alcohol in this week's Budget.

Mr Kelleher also called on customers to take action to halt rising drink prices, which, he said, had increased by around 3% in the past year.

"Customers must be more discerning in where they drink," he said. "If a pub is charging exorbitant prices, there's only way to address that and that's not go in there to support them."
