Finance Minister Charlie McCreevy has defended the Government’s budgetary policies in the face of criticism from opposition TDs.

Mr McCreevy was criticised in the Dail today for increasing public spending rather than putting money aside to help Ireland through any economic recession.

"When you have the resources, you do the things that you want to do," he said.
