More snow is forecast today, although there is unlikely to be as much as in recent days.

The snow is expected to fall mainly in Connacht, west Munster and north Leinster, but there could be showers elsewhere too.

Roads are still treacherous across the country.

Met Éireann forecaster Gerald Fleming said a thaw was not expected until next weekend.

"We still anticipate there will be a significant thaw and end to the cold spell sometime over the Christmas period," he said.
