Aston Villa midfielder Lee Hendrie has been banned from driving for 12 months today after being caught one-and-a-half times over the legal alcohol limit.

The 26-year-old, capped once by England, was initially stopped by police for speeding while travelling at 106mph in his Mercedes saloon on the M40 in Warwickshire, but was charged with drink-driving after failing a breath test, magistrates in Leamington Spa heard.

Hendrie, of Hampton Lane, Solihull, West Midlands, admitted one count of driving while over the legal alcohol limit.
