Preliminary post mortem results on the bodies of eight refugees found inside a freight container in Wexford are expected later this morning.

Gardai have launched an international investigation to hunt down the criminal gang of human traffickers who would have arranged the journey for the refugees.

The five survivors remain in intensive care today at Wexford general hospital.

The four men are described as critical but stable, while the woman is in a critical condition.

At least one of the survivors is believed to be Turkish, and the group could have included four members of one family.

They could have been in the container since it left Italy and arrived in Ireland via Zeebrugge.
