Pond fall boy awarded €650k damages

The High Court has approved an award of €650,000 to a five-year-old Dublin boy who fell into a pond on an outing with his creche over three years ago.

Sean Ross McGowan was 21 months old when he almost drowned while out of sight of his supervisors in Ranelagh in 2007.

He was rescued from the point of drowning by a doctor who just happened to be passing but his injuries are severe and his life expectancy is very limited.

An earlier offer of €550,000 was rejected as inadequate by judge Sean Ryan who said it was hard to think of a more appalling cluster of injuries.
