Britain's Black Watch troops have arrived at their new base south of Baghdad, the Ministry of Defence announced today.

The soldiers are relieving US forces who are expected to mount an all-out assault on the rebel stronghold of Fallujah.

An MoD spokeswoman said: “We can confirm they have arrived at theirdestination.”

The MoD declined to give the exact location of the troops. And it would not comment on reports the troops had been held up by roadside bombs.
