Confusion reigns over Sikora move

Confusion surrounds Vitesse Arnhem winger Victor Sikora’s move to Fulham after the Dutch club claimed they had pulled out of the deal, only for the Cottagers to deny any knowledge of such action.

Vitesse chairman Jos Vaessen halted Sikora’s transfer after claiming the London club wanted to pay in instalments and he instead said he would sell the player to Ajax.

‘‘The transfer of Victor Sikora from Vitesse Arnhem to Fulham is off,’’ said Vaessen.

‘‘The English club want to pay the transfer sum over four years. That is not acceptable to Vitesse.

‘‘I am prepared to negotiate again with Ajax about the transfer of Sikora,’’ he told Dutch radio show Langs De Lign.

However, Fulham tonight were confident the deal would still go through.

Speaking after the 1-0 Intertoto Cup third round, first leg victory against Greek minnows Aigaleo, Cottagers assistant manager Christian Damiano said: ‘‘We’re continuing discussions.

‘‘Sikora hasn’t signed at the moment - but we hope he does because it would be interesting to have him on the left wing, to balance the side.’’

Fulham had bid just over £3million for the Dutch international - beating Ajax’s £2.9m - but Vaessen’s comments today suggest the deal is now in doubt.
