Agent expects fall guys from inquiry

Agent Mel Stein believes “heads will roll” in the Premier League inquiry into allegations of corruption.

Agent Mel Stein believes “heads will roll” in the Premier League inquiry into allegations of corruption.

Lord Stevens has been given an extra two months for his Quest team to continue their investigation.

As part of his investigation, the former Metropolitan Police commissioner looked into all 362 transfers that occurred in the Premier League between January 1, 2004, and January 31, 2006.

In the extended period he will probe the 39, 11% of the total, that he believes merit further analysis.

Stein does not believe corruption is “rife” in football and thinks the majority of clubs being investigated will be cleared.

He said on Sky News: “I would be very shocked if he (Stevens) said there were 10 clubs (guilty).

“I wouldn’t be shocked if he said there are one or two, maybe even three or four, who have entered into a transaction that is open to a more close inspection.

“I really don’t believe corruption is rife in football.

“I think some heads will roll but he’s got to come up with some hard proof.”
