Officials at Ascot will stage a precautionary inspection at 6.30am ahead of Saturday's high-profile meeting.

The entire course is covered to guard against the threat of overnight frost, but clerk of the course Chris Stickels thinks it prudent to check conditions in the morning.

"It is purely precautionary and we are absolutely fine at the moment," said Stickels.

"We are forecast temperatures of between -2C and -4C overnight so we thought it would be best to have a look in the morning to be on the safe side.

"There are no problems anticipated."
