Two delegates from the Irish Red Cross are set to depart on missions to two African countries hit hardest by war, hunger and displacement.

Gary Buchanan from Co Down will begin a new mission in war stricken Liberia where he will be in charge of aid convoys.

Dubliner John Rowland will be in charge of aid distribution in Angola, which is one of the most landmine-infested countries in the world.

Chairman of the Irish Red Cross, David Andrews said, “These are two very experienced men and like the other delegates they are people of enormous courage.

"They are going into a very difficult and arduous geographical if not physical terrain and so all together it is very important that we do have in the name of the Irish Red Cross representatives in these war stricken disaster areas.”
