Two people have died in separate road accidents in Co Clare and Dublin overnight, gardaí said today.

Two people have died in separate road accidents in Co Clare and Dublin overnight, gardaí said today.

A man in his fifties died after the car he was driving was in collision with a van on the main Ennis to Limerick road at about 10.30pm last night.

The man was taken to the hospital but later died. The van driver was arrested at the scene on suspicion of drink driving.

Meanwhile, a 19-year-old woman was killed after she was struck by a car in the Clonsilla area of north-west Dublin. The woman was knocked down at about 2.30am today.

Detectives have appealed for anyone with information to come forward.
