The Minister for Communications, Marine and Natural Resources, Noel Dempsey has announced the appointment of Tom Reeves as chairman of the Commission for Energy Regulation (CER).
Mr Reeves has been the sole member of the Commission since its establishment in 1999 and his term of office as Commissioner has also been extended to 2009.
The Minister also announced the appointment of Michael Tutty, former Second Secretary General at the Department of Finance, as Commissioner and Member of the Commission.
A third Commissioner will be appointed following the outcome of a competitive process being hosted by the Civil Service and Local Appointments Commission.
The Commission for Energy Regulation is the independent body responsible for regulating and overseeing the liberalisation of Ireland's electricity and gas markets.
