Gardai in Cork are due to interview today the driver of a hackney cab and a passenger involved in a crash that killed two gardai in Cork over the weekend.

Gardai in Cork are due to interview today the driver of a hackney cab and a passenger involved in a crash that killed two gardai in Cork over the weekend.

The two were detained overnight in Cork University Hospital after the accident on the city's north ring road.

Their injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.

45-year-old George Rice of Kilgarvan, Co Kerry and Seamus McIntyre, 29, from Kenmare, Co Kerry, died while on duty.

It is understood their patrol car was not in pursuit of the cab when the crash occurred in the early hours of yesterday morning.
