Carjacker dragged boy, six, to death
A man who dragged a six-year-old boy to his death during a carjacking was convicted of first-degree murder by a jury in Missouri.
The boy, Jake Robel, had been left in his mother’s sport utility vehicle while she ran into a sandwich shop last February.
Jake became tangled in the seat belt outside the car when his mother and a man who saw the car being stolen tried to pull him out.
Prosecutors in Kansas, who are seeking the death penalty, said Kim Davis, 35, knew he was dragging the boy as he drove five miles at speeds of more than 80mph.
Defence lawyers said Davis did not know he was dragging Jake until three cars blocked the stolen vehicle at a traffic light and wrestled Davis to the ground.
Some witnesses testified Davis seemed surprised when he saw the boy’s body.
Davis, of Kansas City, also was found guilty of kidnapping, first-degree tampering and armed criminal action.
