Justice Minister John O'Donoghue has announced that agreement has been reached with the Irish Road Hauliers Association about preventing illegal immigrants coming to Ireland in trucks.

A voluntary code of practice is to be introduced to increase vigilance among truck drivers entering the country to ensure immigrants are not hidden in their vehicles.

The announcement comes almost one year to the day when 58 Chinese men and women, who had paid to be smuggled into Britain, suffocated in a sealed container.
