Two members of Gardai have been killed in a head on collision in Co Cork.

Two members of Gardai have been killed in a head on collision in Co Cork.

The accident occurred on the North ring road on the outskirts of the city.

The patrol car was responding to a call when it was involved in a head on collision with a Hackney.

Two units of the Cork fire brigade, using cutting equipment were needed to free the vitims.

Both Gardai, one aged 25 and the other in his forties were taken to hospital where they died.

Gardai officials are witholding the names of the victims until family members are notified.
