The Kildare county board have formally written to Croke Park requesting a deferral of their scheduled All-Ireland football quarter-final against Cork on Sunday.

The Lilywhites are facing a fourth straight weekend of action and on those grounds have sought a week's rest before facing the Munster champions.

Cork are unlikely to support the move as their hurlers are scheduled to face Kilkenny in the All-Ireland hurling semi-final following the football match.
