Co Westmeath crash claims second victim

A second person has died as a result of injuries from this morning's crash in Co Westmeath.

A second person has died as a result of injuries from this morning's crash in Co Westmeath.

The driver died at the scene and the second victim, the 17-year-old passenger, later succumbed to his injuries.

Their deaths bring to 219 the number of people who have died on the roads so far this year.

The driver died instantly after he lost control of the van and slammed into a wall near Tyrellspass at around 7am.

Gardai are withholding both men's names until all next of kin are informed.
