Gardaí in Cork continue to investigate the alleged rape of a 13-year-old girl in Cork city on Saturday night.

The girl reportedly told gardaí that she was raped after chasing a gang of teenagers who had stolen her mobile phone.

Reports this morning say the 13-year-old was walking home from the Mardyke complex along Little Hanover Street with a 17-year-old friend when they were robbed by a gang of around eight teenagers.

The gang is said to have subsequently split up, and the 17-year-old chased two girls who had stolen her handbag, while the 13-year-old ran after those who had taken her mobile phone.

The alleged rape happened shortly afterwards.
