Charlton captain pledges to reimburse fans following 'disgraceful' 5-0 loss

Charlton captain Johnnie Jackson has pledged the team will reimburse fans who travelled to watch the “disgraceful” 5-0 Sky Bet Championship defeat at Huddersfield.

The Addicks were dumped out of the FA Cup at League One Colchester, and produced another abject display against the Terriers, with striker Reza Ghoochannejhad sent off as they remain second bottom of the table.

Jackson confirmed on Twitter the players intended to give the supporters a refund on their £23 match ticket for the forgettable Yorkshire trip.

“I know words are cheap but on behalf of myself and the players, I want to apologise for tonight. It was disgraceful and you deserve better,” the midfielder posted on social media.

“We are going to reimburse fans who travelled up to support us. I will arrange this with the club + they will let you know how to be refunded.”

The future of interim head coach Karel Fraeye remains in doubt, and he did not face the media after Tuesday night’s match, which saw Charlton without a league win since November 21.

Goalkeeper Stephen Henderson eventually emerged from the dressing room to convey the players’ disappointment. He said: “The lads are lower than they could ever have been in their careers.

“I feel numb and a few players are unable to speak. Publicly I’d like to apologise to our travelling fans for that shocking performance.”
