Six Nations: Woodman Injury blow for England

Trevor Woodman is out of the England squad for tomorrow’s Six Nations Championship clash against France.

Gloucester prop Woodman suffered an ankle injury during training on Wednesday and England manager Clive Woodward today confirmed that he is sidelined.

Woodman, who was due to be on the substitutes’ bench as front-row cover for Jason Leonard and Julian White, will be replaced by Saracens’ David Flatman.

Flatman has already been capped by England and has been around the national squad since last summer, so is well aware of what faces him this weekend.

Gloucester, who tackle Leicester in the Heineken Cup semi-finals on April 21, are aware of Woodman’s injury. It is understood that he will have a scan next Tuesday.

His England and Gloucester colleague, fellow prop Phil Vickery, was ruled out of England contention at Twickenham this weekend by a neck complaint.

Gloucester though, are confident that both players will be fit to tackle the Tigers.
