The Special Criminal Court may return a verdict today in the trial of John Gilligan.

His trial for the murder of crime journalist Veronica Guerin has lasted three months.

It is now just three months short of the fifth anniversary of her death.

Mr Gilligan, 48 is accused of ordering the killing.

The Special Criminal Court has indicated that although it is hoped to return a verdict today, more time may be needed to deliberate because of the volume of evidence.
