Stormont minister Sir Reg Empey is to be questioned about hospitality spending linked to the use of an unauthorised credit card by Northern Ireland tourist board staff in New York.

Damaging details about drinks, hotel and restaurant bills are also expected to be disclosed in a damaging audit office report out later today.

Sir Reg, the Trade and Enterprise minister, and his permanent secretary Bruce Robinson are due to be called before a public accounts committee hearing in Belfast on May 30.

Sir Reg claimed action had already been taken to deal with a number of issues identified in the report.

He told the Northern Ireland Assembly: ‘‘But that does not in any way relieve us of the obligation to be continuously vigilant.’’
